When you hear, “Drivers start your engines” the planning is complete. This is when the planners start using the plans they have strategically compiled for the race. Your marketing strategies will direct your plan and get you to the place you want to take your business. Are you organized, finished with planning, and ready to go?
Or, are you driving with your eyes closed and without a bona-fide marketing plan? If this is true, you are not alone and have a lot of good company also sharing the ‘unprepared’ status with you. Along with a good set of business goals, far too many entrepreneurs, business owners and managers are building their businesses without formal business or marketing plans.
If you’re counting, that’s three separate documents… If you’re in business today and you want to be successful, you’d better have goals and the right plans to rely on for smart directions as you go. My expertise does not include all the specifics for strategic business plans, but I know about marketing plans and goals.
I’ve spent most of my career working with marketing plans. I learned to manage a five year plan over twenty years ago. While it seemed like a huge hassle back then, and was a pain staking task to think in terms of five full years, today I view the experience as invaluable.
When it comes to marketing methods and plans, value is vital! We need all the value we can get… right? Well, Plans Equal Value. You’ve got a slim budget to work with and not a dime to waste. Using a plan and following a budget as a priority requires discipline and an appreciation of the infamous, cost of doing business and return on investment figures.
To ignore these marketing methods will cost your bottom line more than you can afford in both time and money. A strategic marketing plan is your GPS… and we all know that the best route from here to there is the most direct. When it comes to the foundation of your business, the path of least resistance is too slippery a slope to travel. Many have tried it before you, and most have failed.
Building a business with a plan is a lot like a cross-country trip. You pick your side trips based on the time you have for site-seeing… When it comes to driving a business to success, resist the distractions that take you away from your GPS directions, and stay focused on the road immediately ahead of you.
It’s great to look out the window and learn, but keep on going in order to make time and get where you are going. Your plan is the guide to your success!
