Dial The Number Or Put A Stamp On It…
Thanks For Calling! Hey, I Also Got Your Note…

Excellent phone service isn’t considered as important as it used to be to businesses. In recent years, calling and sending a note by mail seems to have been replaced by the Internet. Easy phone access or simply the ability to reach someone by phone can be very challenging. It’s nearly impossible sometimes to reach a company representative on the phone, and you’re never quite sure who you’ll reach anyway.
I’ve been there too many times and frankly, I don’t agree with this kind of customer service. Slipping a first name into an auto responder follow-up note isn’t enough. I have a great deal to say on the topic of ‘calling’, so here goes.
I support a school of thought that believes we should, ‘Show The Love’ all the time… and in every possible way to our valued customers and contacts. To do this, we must use the phone with purpose to improve our customer service.
You know what I’m talking about… We check email all day long. Many people keep a cell phone on their person like it’s attached, and there are those who don’t even have land lines anymore. The younger generation is hooked on text… They won’t even make a phone call because, “it’s not the way it’s done anymore.” I got this information from a teen that lives in my home.
Phone automation systems reduced basic telephone service at first, and then came the explosion of email. Email combined with ever increasing postage-rates, contributed to a lot fewer calls and day-to-day letters. Sure, we’re still on the phone all the time, but we playing voice message tag more often, too.
I would even venture to say that the Internet has cut into the volume of printed junk mail we receive. OK, that’s one good thing. But for individuals, it costs too much to send a simple postcard or letter mailing of any volume, without a substantial budget allocation.
So tell me… when was the last time you printed and mailed a letter or document using an envelope and stamp? Or better yet, sent a handwritten note expressing your appreciation?
Instead, we carry our communication devices with us everywhere, making ourselves totally available, well sort of… Then we email and text in our spare time. Some people insist on sending messages while they drive! We stay in touch with others, but the expanse of the Internet separates us.
It’s time to make more telephone calls to your customers, vendors, and networking contacts. You’d be amazed how much goodwill you will earn and new information you’ll exchange. We all love to be remembered. You know it’s true.
This is a very real and viable offline marketing strategy. To make a real impression, pick up the phone and ‘Show The Love’ by giving or getting the facts in person. Call your customers more often… they will appreciate hearing from you more than you may know.
Get to know the people who support your business better, by calling them. ‘Show The Love’ and you’ll improve your business relationships. Your business will grow as a result, too. I dare you… just try it and you’ll experience the rewards for yourself.
